(In?)famous Texas Oil man and entrepreneur T. Boone Pickens has released an energy plan a few weeks ago, that he claims could reduce oil imports by as much as 20% within 10 years, based on private capital, 2 billion of which he has just invested. The plan is to build a lot of wind turbines, from Texas to Canada throughout a so called “wind corridor.” He plans to use the power from wind to allow the utilities to shut down their gas fired plants. He wants to use the freed natural gas supplies to power transportation. This will take some digging to sort out the specifics of what he is saying, but on the surface, it looks good. In my opinion, we need to reduce oil imports 100% in 10 years, yes, to zero. This could well be the way to get 1/5 of the way there, and that would be a major step in the right direction.
As I get time, I will do more digging on this for more of the details. I am concerned about the costs to modify our vehicles to accomodate natural gas, grid cost of the electricity produced, and who knows what else as I find the details. And and all are encouraged to send me links to any further info on this and join the evaluation team. I am going to be trying to approach this the same way I approached evaluating sophisticated, high dollar proposals throughout my career, objectively, and as thoroughly as details and data permit. I would welcome any assistance on the project, it would allow the results to be available sooner.
Here is a link to the story I read.
It’s getting sleepy on my side of the planet, good night all.
