Bingo, DOJ, you hit the nail squarely on the head with your last sentance. There is so much BS flying around out there, trying to sort our fact from fantasy is next to impossible. This is why finding the truth has become my number one, well, co number one priority. My other number one is trying to get more of We the People to also look for the truth.

All of the politicians and pundits and bloggers can say whatever they want to say, but We The People do indeed have THE power. Harnessing it is the challenge.

Politics as usual is still alive and kicking, if anything, stronger than usual. It almost seems like those in power are reveling in having pulled it off again. Look at the orgy taking place in DC spending our tax dollars like mad. Facts are still being obscured and distorted, the needs of the nation and still playing second fiddle to the needs of our elected officials. Never before in my lifetime have the issues been as profound as they are today, and never before in my lifetime have I had less confidence in our government's ability to deal with them.

Never before in my lifetime has the need for We The People to come together and find the truth, and to hold our elected officials accountable ever been more urgent.

I agree with you completely. I, too, am wary of Obama (even though I certainly liked him better than McCain). I also feel like a lot of people who support Obama feel like they can take a vacation from holding their leaders responsible since he was elected, and that's such a dangerous idea!

I have not been as good about holding leaders accountable myself, as you know. However, I feel rallied and awoken. Now if we could just figure out how to make it not be a full-time job just to wade through the trash...

I may be behind the times, but I just want to say: I too get so annoyed by irrational claims on the evils of nuclear power. People out here in Seattle are particularly prone to this, and it is incredibly frustrating!

Thanks for the comment, Jaime, I do appreciate it, and look forward to more of our sometime (often?) lively discussions on political issues. You, my young friend, are a member of the group I have been most hoping to reach with this blog, the youth of our nation. My sincere purpose and hope is not to change your opinions on any subject, but rather to help you find the facts, reality, upon which to base them. Why don't you join me tomorrow for the special Roast Beef dinner at PJ's to discuss this very point, finding the truth. I'm sure John will be there, and though that would make it two OF (Old Farts) and one youngun, it could be a very interesting discussion.

Yeah, Tauromachic, I don't blame you. I've been missing the point too, darnit, it is so easy to do with all the emotional rhetoric flying around us. Given the seriousness of the problems we are facing, we really can't afford to keep missing the point. There are so many problems, all so complex, and everyone on both sides interested not in what's best but in what will get them the most votes, and with us, the voters, ultimately the decision makers being fed a diet of BS, partial truths, outright lies, all packaged in emotionally charged wording. And we are supposed to sort through that crap and figure out what is really the best thing for the nation.

I believe that the overwhelming majority of the voters really want to tackle these problems we are facing, but shoot, we are being fed garbage upon which to make our decisions, and being fed by a group (politicians campaigning for office) known to have no qualms about telling us lies to get us to vote for them. I don't know what the answers are, but I know that business as usual, vote for the one making the best promises, just won't cut it. We all need to make some sound decisions, based on fact not fantasy, and certainly not emotion.

PS - Sorry for the delay in approving your post, I have not been here much lately, I have been trying to sort some things out, figure out where to go and how to go there.

Understand, I will wait. Just for the record, though I may be officially retired, boredom is certainly not an issue for me, I do have a small business I am getting started up here, and with the recent death of my friend (from long term illness), I have been exceptionally busy of late. I am not complaining, nor am I criticising, I am just telling it like it is. I would venture to say that my life is every bit as busy and hectic as yours.

Just back from reaching an agreement with the owner of the house I will soon begin renting (my current lease here expires June 1), in for a shower and shave then back out to bring copies of emails from my good friends sister to read/translate them to his widow. It is now approaching 2PM, should be out of here by 2:30 or so, back 7 or 8.

Curious silence has nothing to do with Iraq -- unfortunately am in the midst of travel right now, so don't have time to respond properly. Will post on Iraq when I am settled at home again, but that won't be until next week. Will watch the vids when I have a chance. Some of us aren't retired, though, you know!

Hmmmm, a curious silence. Guess I better dig out those links. Yeah, good idea to refresh my memory and watch those videos again. Ahhh, got it, here it is, the link to the whole series of interviews with saddam after his capture from 60 minutes. I'm going to watch as many of them as I can, beginning with the one on WMD's.

For some reason I am not able to make the link function work up above, so I am going to try once more here, and display the full url so you can do a cut and paste on it if nothing else.

Now, if that didn't work, here it is in plain text: http://60minutes.yahoo.com/segment/151/iraq_war_saddams_view
